coffee tour of prague
One thing the pandemic could not shut down is Prague’s great coffee scene. Here’s a list of my favorite spots!
Super Tramp Coffee // New Town
Tucked behind the busy streets of New Town hides Super Tramp, an oasis of good drinks and light fare. A little hard to find, but the journey makes it all worth it.
Electro Magnetic Aroma (EMA) // Old Town + Karlín
My favorite coffee shop in Prague! With two locations—One on the edge of Old Town, and one in Karlin you cannot go wrong. Beautiful interiors (love that glass block backsplash), great coffee, and delicious pastries and light sandwiches. If you’re lucky and go on a day when they are serving the “snek” (cinnamon roll), grab it! My order was a cappuccino and the chorizo sandwich, but my favorite was the iced kakao—think frozen hot chocolate. It was on their Spring menu and went back multiple times for it, even on my last day in Prague. It is to die for and I crave it all the time!
Kofárna // Malá Strana
On the other side of the Vltava, Kofárna serves up great coffee and simply the best cinnamon rolls in the city—yes, even better than the famous Artic Bakehouse if you can believe it. Grab a coffee while on your walk along the river, through Letná Park or before your dinner reservation at Café Savoy.
onesip coffee // Old Town
A local favorite, situated on a quiet street that is only a quick walk from Old Town Square. Excellent coffee in a comfortable and casual environment.
mazelab.coffee // Bubeneč
The most beautiful interior—which scores majorrr Instagram points. White walls and concrete masonry units as stools are contrasted against the lush green of ferns and trees. It is gorgeous! Located in Prague 6, it’s a little further from the city center but worth the walk or tram ride. I love the neighborhood, which is full of residential buildings, restaurants, cafes and more. Grab a morning cup before going to lunch at “a Table!” a French bistro where I had one of my best meals abroad.
Prokop // New Town
Oh my goodness…I loved this place. Prokop was a favorite of mine as I walked to school. It’s tiny, no seating inside which made it perfect place to pick up a cappuccino and one (or two!) of their specialty croissants.
Cafefin // Vinohrady
Cafefin, a fusion café, opens up to one of my favorite greenspaces in Prague. My friends and I were obsessed with their brown sugar oat milk latte. A great place to grab a coffee before sitting in the park.
Café Truhlarna // Prague 1
Another favorite mine, located in the Franciscan Garden, which makes for the perfect atmosphere. Their menu includes excellent coffee, great cocktails, a nice wine list and traditional Czech pastries. I loved their mini sandwiches—especially the caprese one.
Kavárna Nový Svět // Hradčany
On my favorite street in Prague, Kavárna Nový Svět is the most charming cafe. The rumor is there is a private courtyard in the back. While I didn’t experience it, I can only imagine how nice it would be with a coffee or evening glass of wine. Stopping by this place while exploring this magical quiet street is a must while in Prague.
La Bohème // Vinohrady
A cozy spot in Prague 2, perfect for warming up on a cold day after shopping—which is precisely the situation I found myself in.
Kro Kitchen, Bakery + Coffee // Vinohrady
Kro is a place I found myself returning to often, and with a constant line outside, I wasn’t the only one obsessed with this place. Side by side establishments, the bakery and kitchen, serve up excellent coffee, baked goods and food. A cool place with great interiors and a lightning bolt light fixture that makes my inner architect swoon. Make sure to return for lunch or dinner.
Honorable mentions:
Places I walked by and are at the top of my list when I return to Prague.
Můj šálek kávy // Karlín
Místo // Bubeneč
Místo is my favorite word in Czech— it means “the place.” Grab a coffee and pick up a pastry from La Forme down the street.
